Visa on Arrival and Foreign Investment
As we all know, the Indonesian government has begun reopening tourism zones to foreign nationals by re-opening Visa on Arrival services since March 7, 2022, with entry through the Immigration Checkpoint at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali. Initially, Visa on Arrival was only available to citizens of 23 countries. However, to date, the number of countries officially eligible for Visa on Arrival has reached 86, with entry points at almost all immigration checkpoints, whether air, sea, or border crossings.
The increasingly widespread opening of Visa on Arrival services significantly boosts the national economy in the tourism sector, given the simpler and shorter Visa on Arrival application process, which eliminates the need for guarantors and also involves simpler requirements.
In addition to the tourism sector, the Indonesian government is also focusing on increasing foreign investment to boost the Indonesian economy nationally. Immigration, as a facilitator of citizen welfare development, supports the Indonesian government’s efforts by expanding the types of activities for which foreigners can use a Visa on Arrival, as follows:
- Tourism visits Visas,
- Government visits Visas,
- Business visits Visas,
- Purchase visits Visas,
- Meeting visits Visas,
- Visas Transit.
Foreigners planning to conduct business, purchase, or attend meetings in Indonesia were previously required to obtain a Visit Visa (B211A) with a corporate guarantor. However, with the new Visa on Arrival requirements, foreigners can legally use a Visa on Arrival to engage in these activities in Indonesia. It is hoped that this immigration streamlining will facilitate potential foreign investors in investing in Indonesian industries and facilitate Indonesian industries in inviting potential investors or buyers to Indonesia. However, along with the increasing number of immigration facilities provided by the government in order to improve the national economy, it is hoped that immigration violations related to the misuse of Visa on Arrival for activities that are not in accordance with the purpose of the visa can be minimized by the status and from Indonesian citizens.
